Linguine Watch is an open-source Java library for real-time monitoring of Java software applications. The monitoring can be done by capturing performance data periodically with snapshots or by reporting data in real-time to SNMP monitoring station. You can easily add performance counters to your applications with Linguine Watch.

Linguine Watch is free, simple, thread-safe, high-performance library that adds very little overhead. It is designed to be deployed with the application into production environment and to report values of various performance counters. With this package you can:

• define monitoring objects (counters and gauges) and add them to your code
• automatically collect data from monitoring objects in real-time
• create periodic snapshots containing monitoring object values
• add complete SNMP v.1 agent to your Java application
• generate SNMP v.1 MIB files automatically

Many other monitoring packages are focused around measuring the time of various activities and the number of hits for specific functions. Linguine Watch takes performance monitoring a bit further. It presents a framework for adding performance counters to large software applications. It helps the software engineers to define correct semantics of performance counters so the system administrators can properly manage it. It makes adding performance counters to you application easy. It takes away all the difficulties of reporting you performance counter values via SNMP.
